Literacy among women and girl in Chakradharpur and Sonua blocks is significantly low owing to several influencing factors such as sending girl child to school is not socially acceptable, education is not affordable, etc. Because of lack of education among the women and girls, they are subjected to humiliation, child abuse and other form of exploitation. They are also treated as household commodity.
MSVM feels that by properly educating women and girls, they can be protected from all types of exploitations and provided succour.
Towards this end, the organisation joined hands with the Central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi, to provide them education through condensed course. The project was implemented in two blocks of West Singhbum district, namely Chakradharpur and Sonua, from August 2006 to March 2008 and April 2004 to March 2006, respectively.
The uniqueness of the project was its designed curriculum. Apart from building capacity of participating women in reading and writing, this curriculum also provided vocational training to them on need based. This feature helped women make self-reliant.
