1. When was SMVM established?

SMVM was established in 1996 but registered in 2000. The current Chief Executive Officer and a group of like-minded individuals decided to combine their talents and considerable years of experience within the NGO sector to set up an organization that would differ from others by focusing on previously ignored communities (particularly rural communities) and promoting their development through participatory, holistic and integrated programs.

2. Is SMVM a registered organisation?

Yes. SMVM is a registered voluntary organisation as a Society since 2000.

3. Is SMVM exempted from Income Tax Act?

Yes. SMVM has a tax exemption under section 80-G and 12-A.

4. Is SMVM eligible to receive foreign grants?

Yes. SMVM is authorized to receive foreign grants and has been permitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) ACT 1976 (FCRA). Most of our funding is sponsored by foreign agencies.

5. Does SMVM work in the area of disability?

Yes, actually SMVM has been working with Spastic Children since 2005, SMVM has registered under National Trust, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi.

6. Which community or group is SMVM mainly working with?

SMVM has always pursued the idea of improving the situation of deprived sections of Indian society. In order to achieve this aim, our organization is mainly working in remote areas, There SMVM is working in the unreached  areas in order to improve the health and livelihood options for their families. Furthermore we are promoting education programmes for marginalised community.

7. Is SMVM working with the youth, women and children?

These two groups are actually the focus of our work. SMVM tries to improve the situation of women, especially rural as well as the youth in order to empower them. To achieve this goal we have an integrated approach concerning the field of education, health and livelihood and are pursuing diverse strategies like building Self Help Groups and creation and nurturing of Community Based Organizations.

8. How does SMVM reach the people at grass root level and ensure their participation?

We reach out to grass root people with the strategy of establishing a dialogue first. This process ascertains important aspects like: What are the pressing problems of local people? What possibilities are there to improve their lives, etc.? After these steps SMVM adopts a variety of field strategies to ensure and seek people’s participation.

We also conduct need assessment through different techniques like PRA, PLAs, etc. Our organization facilitates building a strong network of the stakeholders so that they are empowered to look after themselves in future times. Furthermore we create Self Help Groups which enable women and the youth to generate income through sustainable economic activities and become self reliant over a period of time.

9. How does SMVM ensure the sustainability of its programmes?

SMVM ensures community participation from the day one in most of the programme and tries to build the capacities of its stakeholders on different issues. SMVM works closely with the government and ensures mainstreaming of its approaches and models. SMVM also seeks convergence of its various programmes to bring more integrity. Strategies are devised and enabled for community ownership of all initiatives to take it further.

10. Does SMVM have any publication(s)?

SMVM has published quite a lot of material during last few years. Since 2003 we have an Annual Report informing about our year wise development on the thrust areas as well as on the staff, partners and finance. In addition a brochure and a flyer representing the organization are available. Recently SMVM has published varities of matarials covering disability, health and education related issues. 11. Does SMVM have any volunteers programme?

Yes, SMVM do encourage students and professionals from diversified background to join the interesting work with deprived and marginalised communities in different parts of the country and arrange for a token stipend to selected candidates wherever applicable.
