Livelihood Prototype Scheme

The project tiled Livelihood Prototype Scheme is supported by Meso Pariyojana, Chakradharpur, Government of Jharkhand. The NRM activities are aimed at strengthening capacity of deprived sections of the society by developing natural resources, land, water and vegetation among other things. It is envisaged that such acts will on one hand conserve the ecological balance around the villages and on the other hand the actions thus taken would amply open up the opportunities for the people in pursuing their agriculture, horticulture, livestock development, drinking water supply, fodder and fuel production and all related matters.

Soil and water conservation measures occupy a major activity among villagers. Old/damaged water sources and storage structures are being renovated and put to use for drinking water and irrigation purposes. Live stock development comprises training in a number of methods and techniques. Vaccination and breed improvement camps have also been organised.

Soil Conservation

Soil conservation measures have been taken up in villages covering 250 acres through rigorous training of farmers.  

Water Conservation Measures

  1. Renovation/construction of structures, viz., village farm ponds and a storage tanks in two villages and provision of lift irrigation facilities
  2. Renovation of drinking water sources (dug wells/earthen dams/water harvesting structures) in villages

Agriculture

Agriculture development activities comprise training and awareness in sustainable farm practices:

  1. Improved seeds and other essential inputs to the users
  2. Training and awareness camps for agriculture
  3. Promoting natural farm practices
  4. Promotion of organic farming and sustainable agriculture
  5. Improved seeds and other essential inputs provided through Seeds Department, Government of Jharkhand
  6. Involving households into kitchen gardening to harvest cash crops

Skill Enhancement/Upgradation

  1. Training of CBO leaders on communication, leadership skill and village level planning
  2. Exposure of panchayat representatives on Natural Resource Management aspects

Water User Groups/Farmer Groups

Water management initiatives cover rural poor farmers through appropriate water resources management in participation with community. The farmers are provided training in:

  • Promotion of low External Input Sustainable Agriculture
  • Employment generation for farmers and landless through development of on-farm and off-farm activities
