Rohit: A journey of an orphan boy |
|
One of the star performers of SMVM's intervention is Rohit who has shown marvellous achiever over a period of short duration. It has not been an easy struggle for him to reach a level where he always wanted to, but his own motivation, enthusiastic attitude and efforts of SMVM volunteers made this dream a reality for Rohit.
Rohit, aged 10 years, primarily belongs to Sonorokuti Village of Goilkera block. This Schedule Caste boy lost his parents due to snake bite. The incidence happened in front of him. He was shouting, crying and asking for help but no body came to help them out. That incidence badly affected him. Most of the time he used to keep silent as it seemed that moment affected him physically, mentally and emotionally.
Three months was supposed to complete but no improvement had been observed. Meanwhile, his uncle was taking care, but how long - that was the question staring every one - as his uncle is a small farmer and has four children. With his little earning, he was unable to cater to the needs of family members. More of his expenditure used to incur in meeting the medical expenditure of Rohit per month. Finally, he stopped giving care to Rohit, resulting in fast deterioration of Rohit's health. Soon he became so week that he could not stand on his feet.
Through some source, Rohit was taken in Mother Teresa Anathalaya, an institution being run by the organisation. That day was really unforgettable, on account of joining new guest, all children were becoming crazy and enjoyed like everything. And why they don't? After all, they could share emotions and feelings all together since the nature has mocked them all in a different manner. But, those children had learnt to be happy and to accept the things as it is with no complaints.
When SMVM volunteer started interacting with Rohit he remained very silent. Perhaps he was not able to overcome the incidence. The volunteer discovered it very soon as they observed him in his regular classroom, in corridors and playgrounds and in her own class. They found him good in doing all activities and there is need to boost up his confidence.
Starting from engaging in individual communication, to initiating activities which required quick reactions from children, the volunteer worked towards opening him up to various inputs. Soon Rohit started expressing his problems and started seeking their support to overcome the situation. Since he was already very serious and a regular student he started improving his achievement level very quickly.
The incidence of Rohit inspired him to run an organisation, where all orphan children will be getting all necessary services after completing his education. By this way, organisation has contributed to change the life of destitute and orphan boy Rohit.
