Baseline Survey Report

SMVM undertook a survey in 20 villages covering 2163 households of Khuntpani Block of Panchimi Singhbhum district to understand the educational status and factors affecting its quality,  the baseline survey also seeks to identifying gaps and moreover roles of major stakeholders, as their proactive role can surely accommodate more space to realize the goal of the project.

The survey results show that the children from the poorest households are educationally disadvantaged compared with those from wealthier households. Despite some specific actions, the education system is not able to reach all children, especially girls. There is also a wide variation in the enrolment of girls between different villages of project area. Among the demand-related constraints the most important is the population's lack of awareness about the need and importance of education. The supply-side constraints include the absence of an adequate number of functioning schools, lack of proper infrastructure in schools including toilets for girls, lack of female teachers, inadequate teacher training, and poor quality of teaching.
