The project titled Total Sanitation Campaign is being implemented with the financial support of District Water and Sanitation Committee, West Singhbum. It seeks to improve quality of life of rural people and to provide dignity and privacy to rural women. This includes safe disposal of solid and liquid waste including human excreta and personal domestic and environment hygiene.
Major activities under this campaign include construction of sanitary items, viz., ring, scouting, plates, etc. In order to accelerate the project activities and to meet the rising demand of community on time, the organisation has set up production centre for production of sanitary item by keeping in view of their cost efffectivesness and timely delivery. Around 300 BPL toilets have been constructed till now.
To meet the objectives of this campaign SMVM has accelerated the coverage of rural household with sanitation facilities especially people living under the line of poverty and to generate the felt need through awareness creation and health education, village meetings, rally and campaign. These are the regular activities under the project for behaviour change of the community members.
Regular monitoring of concerning department enhances the organisation's capability and motivates the organisation to achieve desired results. To measure the project efficacy, the organisation undertook village plan in five villages to understand the needs, demands and practices prevailing within the villages. Different types of questionnaire have been used to collect the information from different dimensions of life style of community members and information has been also collected with respect to health, education status of the community members and children, as children are the major stakeholder for the project and hence can promote the campaign of health and sanitation through Children Clubs.
This act has been adopted to further strengthen the project activities and to maximise the project outreach so that the dream of Nirmal Panchayat could be accomplished.
